On June 29, 1924, Detective Tekulve, 737 Delta Avenue, and another officer attempted to arrest Henry Brown (45) who was terrorizing citizens with a revolver. Brown shot Detective Tekulve in the jaw and neck. He died ten days later at General Hospital at 4:15 p.m. on July 9, 1924, of hemorrhage sepsis resulting from the wounds.
Detective Tekulve left a wife of 1½ years, Alice. He was buried in Section 7, Space 160, Spring Grove Cemetery, on July 12, 1924, at 11 a.m.
Brown was convicted of 1st Degree Murder. By then, Ohio law had been changed taking from the judge and jury the option of substituting a prison sentence for a death penalty for killing a police officer in uniform. Brown was electrocuted on February 20, 1925.
