Age: 24
Served: Almost 1 year August 10, 1906 to July 29, 1907
While patrolling alone on July 29, 1907, Patrolman Hauck came across a crowd of men known to police as the “West End Gang.” The men fled into an alley near Gest Street and Harriett Street (now Dalton Avenue). They ambushed Patrolman Hauck, and Peter Dugan shot him in the back of the head. Patrolman Hauck was transported to Cincinnati Hospital where he died the same day. Dugan was arrested and tried, but found not guilty due to insufficient evidence. Patrolman Hauck was buried in Spring Grove Cemetery on August 1, 1907, at 4 p.m.
