Patrolman Dameron

Patrolman Dameron, a World War I veteran of 334 Baum Street, on August 1, 1926, chased a gang of men who attacked, disarmed, and wounded another patrolman at Third and Smith Streets.  One of the gang, Gus Saunders, ran into a structure and Patrolman Dameron followed him.  There was an exchange of gunfire and both men were shot.  Saunders died.  Patrolman Dameron, shot in the abdomen, suffered tremendous pain for 4½ months at Cincinnati General Hospital until he finally died of general septic peritonitis on December 17, 1926.

Patrolman Dameron was not married.  He was buried on December 18, 1926, in Catlettsburg, Kentucky.
